NorthWest Search Dogs

Oregon and Southwest Washington's Finest Working K9 Teams

Welcome

NorthWest Search Dogs is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation organized to provide trained volunteer K9 teams for use in search and rescue operations. The group has established a focus and capability set on Human Remains Detection.

Objectives:

  1. Provide certified search dog teams for use in Detection, Search and Rescue operations in Oregon and Southern Washington.

  2. Provide the public general education on the use of Search Dogs.

  3. Promote professionalism within the K9 Search and Rescue community.

Background:

The group was founded in August 2000 as a search resource for law enforcement agencies. Our K9 Search teams are a highly effective resource in locating missing persons.

The K9's of NorthWest Search Dogs and their handlers live, train and work together.  These trained search K9s are owned and cared for by their handlers. It is imperative that a strong relationship built on trust exists between a handler and their K9 partner in order for them to work most effectively as a team.  Special training works to focus a K9's extraordinary sense of smell to specifically detect human scent. The K9's endurance, heightened night vision, ranging ability and acute sense of hearing in combination with trailing, tracking or air scent training enables a K9 team to search large areas in a variety of terrain.

NorthWest Search Dogs is committed to providing thoroughly trained K9 teams fully equipped to meet the demands of a search competently and professionally.
